BSNL blocks CNN?

February 26, 2008

For a couple of days, i have not been able to access CNN.com using my BSNL Dataone connection. I am not able to access CNN.com and its sub portals like CNN money using both Firefox 2.0.* and IE 6.*. I tried pinging, CNN. com and got request timed out. I googled for any one else reporting such a case and i found a deleted question in yahoo answers reporting the same. One other thing i can confirm is that i was able to access the site last week.

Is this a case of censorship or tech glitch?. Anyone else having this problem?

(My ISP for the office internet connection is Airtel and there i am able to access CNN.com without any problem)

Your blog showed up first when I searched for "cnn.com bsnl" because I too faced the same problem.

It does look like there is some problem at BSNL's end. They are not resolving "www.cnn.com". No idea why. But this is intriguing and we intend to find out more about this.

In case you do wish to access CNN, you could do so by using their IP address!
But then again, you wouldn't be able browse through all their links which are not relative. Very weird.

We will post more details when we find more info on our site [http://www.sixten.in].

Alternately, you could just use some other DNS server if you are comfortable changing your settings.
